Tong Zhang is a Chinese artist based in Florida, US. His work aims to present experience—seemingly small moments in everyday life, while also leaving room for individual interpretation and wonder, which brings his works in strong and personal connection with the viewers and makes them extraordinary universal. In his current artistic practice, Tong focuses on showcasing the nuanced expression of emotions that are essential for cultivating a heightened sense of presence within oneself and in relation to others. This trajectory builds upon the insights gleaned from his prior research, which delved into the exploration of the profound qualities of dark colors and aimed to accentuate atmospheric elements inherent in everyday moments. The overarching objective of Tong's work is to craft occasions that immerse viewers in a contemplative state, prompting the animation of their personal experiences and memories and fostering a sense of connectedness among viewers.

Throughout Tong’s artistic career, his work has been showcased in prestigious venues globally, including Italy, the United Kingdom, China, and various locations across the United States. These exhibitions have taken place at renowned institutions such as the European Cultural Centre in Venice, Elysium Gallery in Swansea, the Milk Gallery in New York City, the Attleboro Arts Museum in Massachusetts, the Tucson Museum of Art in Arizona, and the Museum of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China. Recognizing the merit of Tong’s artistic contributions, he has been honored with accolades such as the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grants 2017 and 2018, The Sam and Adele Golden Foundation for Art Residency, and the George J. Vander Sluis Awards 2016 and 2018, among others. He holds two MFA(s) from Syracuse University and China Academy of Art and a BFA from Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts in China.
